STARS at the Trail: African American Youth Harvest Foundation
By: Carly Campbell
The African American Youth Harvest Foundation Mission:
Over 9 years ago, President & CEO Michael Lofton founded the African American Youth Harvest Foundation (AAYHF). AAYHF's mission is to provide free resources to underserved, at-risk youth and their families on their path to self-sufficiency. Michael Lofton saw that there was a gap that needed to be filled and he worked with community partners to create an organization that continues to grow in order to transition youth and their families who are in need or in crisis into an end goal of self-sufficiency.
About the Trail of Lights STARS Program
The STARS Program Presented by Vista Equity Partners honors the service of over a dozen nonprofit community organizations by offering an exclusive preview of the Trail of Lights.
As a 2016 STARS Sponsor, T5 Foundation spreads the holiday cheer of the Trail of Lights to the constituents of the African American Youth Harvest. Interview: Keya Wallace, Development Director at AAYHF
What’s the best part about the holidays at your organization?
The best part about the holidays at AAYHF is we do our part in eliminating food insecurity by donating holiday meals to families that are underserved.
What are your constituents looking forward to most at the Trail of Lights?
Our youth are most looking forward to creating a close connection that could possibly turn into a tradition with their families.
How can people help your organization this holiday season (and beyond)?
Individuals can help our organization this year by donating non-perishable items that we can give to students over the holiday break. Often times, youth are able to receive free or reduced lunch at school but, during the holidays if there is an economic struggle, food may be scarce. We want to eliminate that barrier and provide assistance.
What is your organization looking forward to most in the New Year?
In the New Year, we are most looking forward to continuing to move hearts and touch families through our inventiveness and resources.
