STARS at the Trail: Foundation Communities
We’re showcasing our STARS at the Trail organizations in a holiday blog post series to help Austinites get to know the nonprofits that are dedicated to serving Austin’s most deserving citizens. Today, we’re featuring Foundation Communities.
About Foundation Communities
Foundation Communities owns and operates 23 communities all over Austin and in North Texas, providing affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for families with kids, veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. This is their third year to participate in STARS at the Trail and are excited about giving families an opportunity they wouldn’t have otherwise; creating holiday memories for 150 Foundation Communities residents; and watching parents and children enjoy their time on the trail.
Affordable Housing that Helps Residents Succeed
Tell us about your organization: What is its mission/what are you most passionate about?
Our mission is to create housing where families succeed. We offer an innovative, proven model that empowers our residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles.
What are three things you want the Austin community to know about your organization?
Affordable housing can be beautiful. We want our residents to be proud of where they live.
We provide more than just a roof over people’s heads. Our on-site education, financial stability, and health services help people transform their lives.
We’re especially proud of our Children’s Home Initiative (CHI) program, which provides intensive case management and support for families moving directly out of homelessness.
How can the Austin community best support your organization?
A meaningful way to support our work this season is to get involved in our Holiday Assistance Program. Through this program, you can sponsor one of our resident families, donate wish list items to our holiday drive, or make an online donation and we’ll go shopping for you. Find out more here. Beyond the holiday season, we have many opportunities to get involved in our work and make a real difference for low-income families. Learn more about available volunteer opportunities here.
What is your organization looking forward to most in the new year?
We look forward to welcoming 120 new families home to our Cardinal Point community in the Four Points area and breaking ground at our future community in the Mueller neighborhood! We hope to continue growing and serving more families and individuals in need of affordable housing. As we welcome more new families home, we look forward to expanding our education, financial stability and health support services in order to help as many people in our community as possible transform their lives.
